a little country, a little city
Just over the Hudson, I found one of the most interesting spots. It's located up on a hill looking right over to New York City. The views of the city are quite beautiful. Really beautiful. Beautiful & contrasting. It feels like you're in the country but can reach out & touch the city. Maybe it's the log fence & trees that create the illusion of being so far & so close. In the country & in the city simultaneously. I think it's the stillness of this spot & the sight of a city with so much activity that makes it feel like I'm in two places at once.

little peach trunk show at Nastasi Vail Design
This past Sunday, I had my first trunk show. It was held at Nastasi Vail Design in Brooklyn. I felt very fortunate for the opportunity to show some of my most current vintage finds in such a neat interior design studio space. It was a blast & we're already planning the next one for December! I better go get to work. Here's a few quick photos I snapped.
p.s. You're all invited to the next one!

new fall & winter
Hi there,
I was able to snag photos by Dan for a few minutes to take some shots of the new pieces I've been collecting this fall. Here are a couple of garments going into the little peach shop this week. Can't wait to show you the rest of the items. Hope your week is going nicely!

do the sleep monsters ever get you?
Ever wake up in the morning & wonder.....what in the world happened to me overnight? I feel a little like that today. Maybe it's a blessing that I wear contacts & the first image I see of myself is severely blurred in the morning. It's almost like some type of creature comes in the middle of the night with the only task of making you look as disheveled as possible before you awake. It seems to happen to me when I have a busy night of dreaming or sleep really soundly.
When I was at the lake in Alabama I slept with a purple scarf around my neck for a little extra warmth. Just picture for a moment.......thick chunky socks, striped flannel pajamas, purple neck scarf, black thick framed glasses, & crazy crazy hair pointing in all directions....coming to you up the stairs. That was me after an excellent night of sleep. It must have been pretty scary because my nephew Connor was the first to greet me at the top of the stairway & said very slowly & seriously......."what are you"? Does this happen to anyone else out there or am I the only one that has their work cut out for them in the morning? Luckily, it's nothing a cup of coffee can't straighten out.
Have a great Thursday!

rainy day
photos: Vintage 1960s Red Ombre Umbrella - Small Earth Vintage
Why is it that I never think of wardrobe weather necessities until the elements are actually here? I'm seriously lacking a windproof/neat umbrella or raincoat & it never crosses my mind until I'm out walking my puppy dogs getting mangled by a downpour. Not until that moment does the topic of waterproofing myself cross my mind. It would be nice to finally break down & invest in a nice umbrella to trot around town with instead of wanting to take cover & hide the day away indoors. This nonstop rainy day is motivating me to cruise etsy in search of the perfect rain protection. Are you more of a rain coat type of a person or umbrella type? I'm still trying to decide for myself. Here are my favorite finds of each!

photos by me - Lake Martin, Alabama
Oh my goooooooodness! I just fell off the face of the earth. Actually, I've been in Alabama...with no computer, or internet, or even a phone signal. It was pretty calming to be so disconnected. You wouldn't believe the pretty views of the lake. The little map dot I was on has got to be the polar opposite of New York. Just open land to one side & the lake for miles & miles on the other. What a treat to escape from the crazy city! I seriously have not slept that soundly in years. Really. All the fresh air & peacefulness combined with the crisp fall air really knocked me right out. Good thing I packed lots of scarfs & cozy cardigans...perfect for loafing. In the morning we'd wake up & have banana pancakes (my sister made) or travel to the local market (which is housed in the neatest red barn) for pecan sticky buns & cinnamon rolls. My mouth is watering as I'm typing this. Then we'd have stew or chili for lunch & fresh fish & vegetables for dinner. Sweet tea flowed right out of the tap. Well, almost. The best part was spending time with my family. I didn't want to leave. My mom calls it heaven on earth & I have to agree.

I sure have missed the blogging world, though. Feeling good to be back.

My nephew Connor didn't want to leave either. He was pretty creative in his attempt to stay at the lake.

Coat Cousins
photo: 1960s Brown Double Breasted Faux Fur Coat
Yesterday, I set off to Jersey City to see what was new in the thrift shop circuit. One of the best items I came across was a heavy plush coat that felt like a close relative to the one Little Edie Beale wore on the poster for the Grey Gardens documentary. It's probably a second cousin or aunt to the actual coat she's wearing. The one I found is faux fur, double breasted, & more 60s. Maybe it's in the collar that there is a family resemblence. Anyway, I couldn't help but think of Little Edie when I saw this hanging between two long leather trenches. By weird coincidence, I checked the mail after my morning shopping trek & Grey Gardens was waiting for me via netflix. I'm not sure why, but for some reason it kept getting pushed down the line in my netflix que & finally resurfaced to the top. I only wish it had arrived sooner. What a remarkable story. Have you seen it before? What did you think of their story? I wanted to see the original before I put on the HBO version. So far I've seen it three times since yesterday evening.

breakfast a la mode
photo by me: apple crisp for breakfast
Last night we had a little fall dinner party with lots & lots of food & by the time we made it to dessert, everyone was stuffed. This morning, sleepily stumbling into the kitchen, I go straight for the leftovers = the apple crisp. Oh, it is so good. With no restraint, I warm it up & then put a scoop of vanilla ice cream right on top. The contrast between hot & cold is pretty awesome......the ice cream melts & turns into like a warm cereal thing with crumbly, buttery goodness. Excellent with coffee in my good luck Motown mug....which, I need in a big way this morning. As my mom says...."life's uncertain, eat your dessert first". Momma, thanks for the tip.

Back up about seventeen hours & take a look at what just arrived in the mail.........

oh yeah, these boots are possibly the most comfortable things I've ever put on my feet......ever. (they've been in my dreams the last few months) I laced them up to walk my dogs this morning & they feel soooooooo good, I don't want to take them off yet. Just sitting here.....eating my apple crisp.....a la mode....in my boots! If you're looking for me in the next few months, I'll be in the boots. Have a fun Friday!!

no brainer fall dressing & the perfect hybrid sunglasses
Have you ever seen Love Story from 1970? Ali McGraw is my idea of perfect fall/winter ease with a hint of charm. She is outfitted in sleek black tights, tidy mini skirts, & timeless wool coats throughout the film. Over the weekend I watched it again & found myself swayed to start searching for tights & tweeds. I'm looking forward to mixing textures & colors this season with lots of skirts & dresses & anchoring them down with clean black tights. Out of habit, when the air cools & the sun dims, I gravitate towards jeans & blazers. This year, I'm going to try & break that cycle & keep my legs out there & play with layers a little more.
photos: film captures by me - Love Story, 1970
After my movie watching, I wandered over to Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg & unexpectedly found a pretty cool pair of sunglasses. If a pair of 50s cat eye glasses were crossed with a pair of black 60s wayfarer's, I think this is what would be born. Best of all, they didn't break the bank being under $10. I've already moved into them.
What were you up to this last weekend in September? This month went by in about 2 minutes!

new for fall!
Friday I spent the afternoon in Brooklyn going through some of my favorite vintage & thrift shops. It's a sure thing to always find lovely, special garments there. Hope you enjoy! They are making there way into my etsy shop this week.
